Petrol is one of the valuable and widely used resource in many parts of the world, and Port Harcourt is definitely not an exemption. Over the years, the prices of petrol have been fluctuating from the high side to the normal side and this fluctuations has caused some increase in some services that are offered by people in the city. Currently, the petrol fluctuations are really on the high side as one liter of petrol now costs NGN300 in many petrol stations. There are some petrol stations who sell at NGN299 but only the Nigerian National Petroleum Coporation (NNPC)’s petrol stations are the ones that do sell for NGN179.00 (a much cheaper price). This situation all started some months ago. Petrol prices went from NGN165.00 to above NGN200.00. The reason for this was reported to be as a result of the tanker drivers strike. Well, things did not really go back to the normal way it used to be. Instead of returning the prices back to the NGN165.00 as it used to be, the petrol stations lef...

Image
Water is one of the important resources in life. Who would say that he or she hasn’t used it before? And because of this, the search for how to find good and useable water has been a quest for many people in the land of Port Harcourt. Well, there are two ways people get usable water in Port Harcourt, and honestly, speaking, I feel that you would prefer the second one over the first by the time we conclude this article. However, the two ways are as follows: 1. Through the Sinking of Personal Bore Holes: People in Port Harcourt don’t pay to get water from the government. The elite ones who can afford sinking personal bore holes for their houses do not seem to relent from doing so. They’ll mostly go to a land where fresh water can be found, pay for a portion of it, and sink their bore hole there. Then, they’ll use pipes and pumps to move and transport the water from that place to the different parts of their houses. Most times, people who do this are hired personnel. But the...

Asides The Medical Sector, These Are 2 Vital Areas Which UNILAG Should Expand Their Research Intents To In Nigeria

Image
The Rice 360 initiative is one that is formed on the basis of improving the medical research in Nigeria. It is a collaboration between the Rice group in the United States of America and the University of Lagos that has given birth to the UNILAG studio– a dedicated research facility that is located in the university. This initiative only focuses on the medical challenges facing the country but I am of the opinion that UNILAG shouldn' t only focus on medical challenges. There other challenges in the country that are also of utmost importance. They should extend to these areas of the economy in the coming years. And I have with me the three areas that when explored would take this country to better heights in the future. Without further ado, they are as follows: The Power Sector: The power sector in Nigeria is weak and full of many challenges ranging from power theft to epileptic power supply and many others. The emergence of a good research initiative into the power sector would do...

Students who aspire to join this university should pay rapt attention so their admission journey would be a nice one indeed. But how does it work? Well, the admission process starts from the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board examinations that a student would take in his or her designated centers. This exam is very crucial and it is an important determining factor in the admission process. The reason for this is that every year, JAMB gives a cut off for every university and polytechnic and any student who does not meet this cut off mark would not be allowed to write the Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation examinations (Post UTME) of any university or polytechnic. Hence, all students are advised to take ...

Writing of their official Facebook page, the University of Lagos has revealed some useful tips to try if you are worried about not doing enough revision before the examination. The content of the post goes thus: " Are you worried you haven' t done enough revision? Be calm. You' ve got this! Try the following: " Focus on your weak points. Zero in on the aspects you feel the least confident about and make them simpler for you to understand. " " Attempt practice questions in a conversational manner. Saying words that you study out loud helps you remember them better. Having a study partner can help with this. Alternatively, you can pace back and forth, holding the conversation with yourself. Why More Students Should Take Part in the Rice 360 Program That Goes on in the University of Lagos

Image
The University of Lagos made a post of the grandaunts of the Rice 360 program that is carried out within their borders from time to time. The school has a studio called the UNILAG Design Studio and it is a product of the collaboration between the University of Lagos and Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies in the USA. This program is a very special and I feel that more schools should participate in it. UNILAG wrote that they received applications from fifteen institutions nationwide whereas there are more than one hundred schooling and training institutions in Nigeria. Could the rest of the crowd be unaware of this initiative or they simply don' t want to take advantage of it? Be that as it may, I feel that the reason why many institutions should take part of this is to facilitate the expansion of medical research in the country. It was noted that the grandaunts of the Rice360 program in UNILAG all solved some technical challenging issues in the area of medical issues...
