How Petrol Prices in Port Harcourt Went Up From NGN179 to NGN300 Per Litre.
Petrol is one of the valuable and widely used resource in many parts of the world, and Port Harcourt is definitely not an exemption. Over the years, the prices of petrol have been fluctuating from the high side to the normal side and this fluctuations has caused some increase in some services that are offered by people in the city.
Currently,
the petrol fluctuations are really on the high side as one liter of petrol now
costs NGN300 in many petrol stations. There are some petrol stations who sell
at NGN299 but only the Nigerian National Petroleum Coporation (NNPC)’s petrol
stations are the ones that do sell for NGN179.00 (a much cheaper price).
This
situation all started some months ago. Petrol prices went from NGN165.00 to
above NGN200.00. The reason for this was reported to be as a result of the
tanker drivers strike. Well, things did not really go back to the normal way it used to be. Instead
of returning the prices back to the NGN165.00 as it used to be, the petrol
stations left it at NGN179.00 and there were some who also sold at NGN180.00.
Things
were going this way until a scarcity of fuel came up. This scarcity got so bad
that many of the petrol stations were unable to get supplies for their station.
The ones who had some supply sold at a price of NGN250.00. This price continued
until the late week in the month of November when the petrol price hit
NGN270.00.
Currently,
the petrol price is now at NGN300.00 but there are some petrol stations who
still sell at NGN299.00. The only good news for some people is the fact that
the NNPC petrol stations still sell at the NGN179.00 rate and not as the
others. This is the probable reason why many of the Port Harcourt residents do
go there to buy petrol.
You’d
always find a lot of people crowding these petrol stations to get some petrol
at a cheaper rate. Prices of transportation to different places have gone up as
a result of this increase. One can only hope that it ends very soon.
