Asides The Medical Sector, These Are 2 Vital Areas Which UNILAG Should Expand Their Research Intents To In Nigeria

The Rice 360 initiative is one that is formed on the basis of improving the medical research in Nigeria. It is a collaboration between the Rice group in the United States of America and the University of Lagos that has given birth to the UNILAG studio– a dedicated research facility that is located in the university.

This initiative only focuses on the medical challenges facing the country but I am of the opinion that UNILAG shouldn' t only focus on medical challenges. There other challenges in the country that are also of utmost importance. They should extend to these areas of the economy in the coming years. And I have with me the three areas that when explored would take this country to better heights in the future. Without further ado, they are as follows:

The Power Sector:

The power sector in Nigeria is weak and full of many challenges ranging from power theft to epileptic power supply and many others. The emergence of a good research initiative into the power sector would do a lot of good to it. The students of the initiative can be given tasks to solve the problems that is associated with this sector and everything would gradually take a new turn.

They could try to invent new ways of generating power that is efficient and also environmental friendly. They could also develop mechanisms that would help people make the best out of their power consumption and many others. This would surely help the power sector develop faster than the way it is now.

The Oil and Gas Sector:

The oil and gas sector has faced a lot of challenges like oil theft, pipe leakages, fire outbreaks and many others. These problems are risky considering the fact that oil is one of the major source of the country' s revenue.

However, it could be solved if the bright minds from a dedicated research could extend the courtesy of finding solutions to these problems after they have been taught. Once this is done, the oil and gas sector should move in a more efficient manner and the country, as well as the companies would also have the best out of their exports of the resource and lots more.

What are your thoughts on this?
