RSU Should Provide More Computers In Their In Their Mechanical Engineering Software Lab.
It is unfortunate to say that the software laboratory of the Mechanical engineering department of the Rivers State university is lacking the number of computers that would duly fit the large number of students who offer the courses that it is used for. As a result of this, I am of the opinion that the school should provide more computers to reduce this deficiency so that productivity and efficiency of both the lecturers and the students would be enhanced.
The software
laboratory of this department just has a little over eighteen four gigabites
RAM computers that are used for mechanical design, MATLAB and much more. This
number is expected to serve over two hundred students in the department of
Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering and Agricultural Engineering because
these three departments all study Mechanical engineering design as a course.
You can see that with this kind of number against the small number of computers that are available, not all the students would be capable of getting a computer system to work with. The department tried to make things better by dividing the students into groups but this did not do much. There were still students who did not have computers after sharing them into ten groups. No groups could be further created and I suspect that this was because of the time factor required to cover the work that was to be treated for the semester.
How long would this continue. The school authority should step into this situation and provide more computers so that the students would have a wonderful time learning their courses. There should be at least fifty computer sets in that lab so as to cater for the increasing number of students that offer those computer course yearly.
This way, the students would have a better learning experience, the
lecturers would teach with ease because they don’t have to illustrate
everything, the computer can help, and also the students would be able to
retain much information that would help them write their exams successfully
because practical sessions is one of the most effective way for keeping
information in the brain.
