How RSU’s Mechanical Engineering Department Conducts Their Departmental Elections

 Unlike the student union government (SUG) of the Rivers State university, the department of Mechanical engineering does have a rather different way of conducting their elections.

This method greatly resembles that of the Nigerian system but instead of using voters card, the students so use their school fees receipt to affirm that they are truly students of the school and so, eligible to vote.

The election procedure starts at the designated position that has been kept for the voting process. The Electoral committee of the department would gather the people together, introduce themselves, and call out the candidates. The candidates would begin to tell the students the things that they would do for the department and how they would discharge their duties when they are in office.

Each of them would do this individually for some time even though they may have done it before during the campaign season. After their seasoned talks, the chairman of the electoral committee would usher everyone out, and each student is given a paper.

This paper contains the names of the aspiring students and what positions they are running for. Each student is expected to tick one name per position. Any paper that has two names per position ticked is regarded as an invalid vote.

After the voting has been concluded, all votes are counted and calculated by the chairman, his board, and students who care to wait for that time. The student with the highest vote is regarded the winner of the position that he or she had aspired for and is put into office when the time is due.

It is after the winners have been announced that the students begin to jubilate or simply put up other moods if the person whom they support won the position or not. So, this is how the election system of the department of Mechanical engineering works.
